Hi! I'm Rio

Just when the caterpiller thought the world was ending...

Hi, I'm Rio and I'm a Chronically Late Bloomer.

But, Rio... what does that even mean?

It means I spent a lot of my life not quite fitting in, but trying really hard to figure out how to.

Spoiler: It didn't work. Not exactly.

What I did end up doing is having a lot of adventures, getting a lot of experience and finding a lot of things I didn't necessarily want to do.

I found a lot of ways to live. And they all fit parts of me, for a time.

But they didn't fit me fully.

And then, at age 42, my whole life fell apart.

Okay, not entirely.

But it sure felt like it. Everything had to change.

And it was messy.

The interesting thing about caterpillars, is that when they go into their cocoon, they literally fall apart into a mass of goo, that then rebuilds into the butterfly.

The caterpillar has to let go of what it thinks it is, in order to become what it's meant to be.

Deep change is messy. It has to be. We have to learn to let go of the ideas of what we should be, so we can become what we need to be.

Midlife is a gift.

A messy, messy, goo-filled gift.

But it's definitely doable, manageable, and more importantly it can be life-changing.

In the best of ways.
